What's the difference between passive and active flexibility?

Passive flexibility uses an external force to achieve flexibility (i.e., body weight, band/strap, a teacher, block, yoga ball, and the list goes on). ⁣ ⁣ Active flexibility is the ability to get your body into a position without an outside force.⁣ ⁣ The more significant the gap between your passive and active flexibility, the higher the risk for injury. 🤯 And the better active flexibility you have, the easier it'll be to get into flexy moves in the air and on the ground 🤗⁣ ⁣

How do I improve my active flexibility, then? Strengthen and condition the antagonistic muscle, aka the opposite muscles of what you're stretching near your end range of movement. 💪⁣ ⁣ For example... ⁣ Working on hip flexibility? Engage and squeeze, as well as strengthen your glutes.⁣ Working on back flexibility? Strengthen your core as well. ⁣ Working on hamstring flexibility? Engage your quads. ⁣ ⁣ This is all super general, but let me know what you think in the comments below! ⁣ ⁣ #flexibility #activeflexibility #passiveflexibility #splits #legscale #splitsforclaps #mobility
